My Journey to Falling in Love with Marketing

My Journey to Falling in Love with Marketing

Marketing isn't just about selling a product; it's about telling a story that resonates with people. My journey into the world of marketing began in the fall of 2021, during my time at FSU Panama City, where an unexpected conversation sparked a deep-seated passion that would chart the course of my career.

It all started with a simple complaint from a friend, Tyler, about his bed swing business struggling with its digital presence. The business, Atlanta Bed Swings, had a cluttered website and sparse social media engagement, which did not do justice to the quality of their products. Tyler's frustrations, coupled with a casual suggestion from another friend, about helping out, piqued my interest in marketing, social media, and branding.

Eager to make a difference, I volunteered to help Tyler revamp Atlanta Bed Swings' social media strategy using Canva. This hands-on experience was my playground for experimentation, leading us to tackle a bigger project: overhauling their website. We updated the brand with modern fonts and a color palette inspired by none other than Kim Kardashian’s minimalist style, which better reflected the modernity and durability of their products. This rebranding wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was about breathing new life into the brand at a time when sales were dwindling.

The challenge, however, was convincing the rest of the Atlanta Bed Swings team to embrace these changes. Many small business owners are hesitant about change, especially when it involves their life’s work. But Tyler and I knew that innovation was necessary for survival. Our executive decision to rebrand, coupled with a strategic partnership with Linen & Flax, was a turning point that reinvigorated the business.

These experiences were transformative. They taught me the power of marketing and inspired me to launch my own firm, The Azalea Company, with a vision to create a healthy, creative environment where diverse talents could thrive. I aim to lead a culture where creatives feel valued and analytics can delve deep, believing firmly that a strong, healthy culture breeds success.

Today, my goal for The Azalea Company is clear: to help our clients carve out a strong identity in their market and to grow our team, fostering a community of passionate marketers dedicated to our clients' success. This journey from a curious student to a creative entrepreneur shows that sometimes, the path you're meant to take finds you when you're busy making plans elsewhere.

With Love,

Isaiah
